CJOE Radio
CJOE Radio, 1290 on the AM dial, went on the air in 1967 as Joe McManus' centenial project. The station was housed in the third floor of Hotel London at the corner of Wellington and Dundas. It started out with an easy listening/elevator music format however in the early 70's it switched to rock music and climbed from 5th place in the ratings to 2nd. Since Joe did not like the new format he sold the station in 1972. The new owners renamed the station CJBK and continued with the rock format.
